LSU Badminton Club Constitution

 

Article I: Organization

The name of this organization shall be the Louisiana State University Badminton Club.

 

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of the organization will be to promote and enjoy the sport known as Badminton.

           

Article III: Basic Policies

a)       The organization shall be non-commercial.

b)      The name of the organization or the names of any members in their official capacities shall not be used in connection with a commercial concern.

c)      The organization shall cooperate with Louisiana State University to support the improvement of education in ways that will not interfere with administration of the University.

d)      The organization may cooperate with other organizations and agencies, but persons representing the organization in such matters shall make no commitments that bind the organization.

e)      The organization agrees to abide by all University policies and local, state and federal laws

 

Article IV: Membership

a)      All people who hold URec Membership are eligible for LSU Badminton Club Membership.

b)      Membership fees shall be determined at the beginning of each semester.

c)      Membership fees shall be paid by all members with the exception of those of the executive council.

d)      Failure to pay membership fees will result in a forfeiture of court privileges.

e)      Students include all undergraduate and graduate students.

f)       Associates include faculty, alumni, and other URec membership holders.

g)      Non-members are not allowed to participate in tournaments run or set up by the LSU Badminton club.

h)      Members with outstanding dues may not participate in any tournament set up by the LSU Badminton club.

i)        Members are entitled to court set-ups, URec provided shuttlecocks and rackets , entitlement for enrollment in tournaments set up by the LSU Badminton club, and court space during the specified time slots of the club (Unless URec has another arrangement with the courts).

j)        Any LSU student, faculty member or staff member who subscribes to the purpose and basic policies of the organization may become a member of this organization, subject only to compliance with the provisions of the constitution.

k)      Active membership is restricted to LSU students. Associate membership is restricted to LSU faculty and staff. Associate members are non-voting members

Article V: Rights and Privileges

a)      All members have the right to access the club constitution, a copy shall be provided by the club website.

b)      All members have the right to inspect the financial records of the club.

c)      Any executive officer is allowed to resign, provided there is a one-month written notice given to the faculty advisor.

d)      All members may challenge rules and decisions made by the executive council and shall do so in writing. All challenges shall be discussed and resolved by the executive council.

 

Article VI: Officers and Elections

a)      The Officers of the LSU Badminton Club will consist of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and a faculty advisor and thereby known as the executive council.

b)      All executive council positions expire after one year; there is no limit as to how many terms one can serve in a position.

c)      Each year a new president shall be appointed by the president and will be accepted as such unless there is another nomination of which the club members shall take a vote for the new president.

d)      The elected president shall nominate all other executive council members, if club members have no other nominations they shall become their respected titles.

e)      The duties of these officers are as follows

§  President: He is to attend all required URec meetings and is responsible for all organizational responsibilities of the club including, reservation of court space, maintain the club member list, etc.

§  Vice President: In the absence of the president, the vice president must attend all URec meetings.

§  Treasurer/Secretary- The treasurer/secretary shall handle all dues and accounts, and will be responsible of keeping a record of all financial transactions.

f)       To be eligible to be elected to, appointed to, or to hold an office or be a standing committee chairperson, a student must:

§  Must be enrolled as a full-time student at LSU;

§  Must be in good standing with the University, have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and not be on disciplinary probation or deferred suspension;

§  Must meet all other reasonable academic standards established by the student organization and included in the organization’s constitution and/or bylaws.

 

Article VII: Club Rules

All Club rules will be adhered to:

a)      Don’t walk behind the courts or anywhere within the court boundaries while the shuttle is in play! This is to ensure safety for you and the other players on the court.

b)      Limit your warm-up to 5 minutes when others are waiting to play.

c)      Singles games are not allowed when others are waiting to play.

d)      Leave the court when your game is over.

e)      Please take all shuttles (usable and non-usable) with you when you leave the court.

f)       Please clean up after yourself when you leave the gym (Water Bottles, Shuttle Canisters, Dead Shuttles, etc.).

g)      All URec rules must be obeyed.

h)      First timers are allowed on the court for free. After that you are required to sign up for the club.

i)        Failure to adhere to the club and/or URec rules will receive up to three warnings. If the three warnings are ruled out there will be a one day suspension from the courts. If a player/member has been suspended more than 3 times their membership will be forfeited and there will be no refund of their membership fee.

 

Article IX: Officer Expulsion

Officer expulsion can take place when the accused officer does not perform his/her duties and an agreement with all the members of the executive council, other than the accused officer him/herself.

 

Article XI: Amendments

Amendments to this constitution can be made if all members of the executive council agree to it.

 

Article XI: Registration Renewal

Badminton Club will apply to the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement for registration on an annual basis two weeks after Badminton Club elects new officers.

 

Article XIII: Ratification

This document will be ratified by a 100% vote by the executive council.
